ELDERS

New Beginnings Church is an Elder-led church. The goal of our church leaders has always been to humbly and prayerfully guide and support the individuals & families that God has placed in our care.  If you want to contact he elders for any reason email them at elders@nbcfamily.com. Our current Elder Board includes:

  • Dave Shank, Chairman

Dave and his wife, Cynthia, have been attending NBC since 2001.  Dave grew up in the Shenandoah Valley with parents who faithfully instilled in him an understanding of the place and importance of faith, work, family and fun.  At the age of 12, Dave answered God's call on his life and accepted Christ as his Savior.  While attending Montevideo High School, he was greatly influenced by the Athletic Director who walked his faith in a public school setting.

Dave went to school for what seemed like forever... and eventually became a life guard (doctor).  In the middle of the forever schooling process he met and married Cynthia—with whom, by virtue of a close collaboration, found themselves the parents of four sons.  Faith, work, family and fun were mainstays in their home.  If having fun required some risk-taking, Dave was all in!  He usually allowed it, sometimes encouraged it, and often participated in it.  Serving on the Elder Board at NBC has been a direct result of God's repeated call on Dave's life.  It has provided him the opportunity to understand in detail such matters as obedience, accountability, humility, perseverance, loyalty and faithfulness.

  • Sam Carr

Sam and his wife, Jennie love being part of connecting people in community. They love hospitality, fun, and working hard. Sam graduated with his master's degree from Liberty University for counseling. You will see their family on the lake, cheering on the Baltimore Ravens, or having a large gathering at their home.

  • Scott Wenger

Scott and his wife, Amy, have been attending NBC since the early 2000s.  Scott grew up primarily in the Harrisonburg area and graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School in 1995.  Scott has always felt called to serve others and has enjoyed a great variety of work opportunities.  These include being an automobile mechanic and owning a gas station auto repair shop/rental car company, many years of full, part time, or volunteer reserve service as a police officer, farming, and a 27 year career in the Army National Guard including 12 years of full-time employment and culminating as the Command Sergeant Major for the 91st Cyber Brigade, which consists of 1,000 cyber operations personnel operating in 31 states.

In 2021, Scott left his full-time position as the Virginia National Guard State Network Operations Manager, and Amy left a 21 year career ending as Assistant Vice President of Military Markets with Armed Forces Benefit Association in Alexandria, Virginia to transition together into full time ministry when both Scott and Amy felt a call to change something in their lives.  This resulted in them buying 158 acres in WV located next to the Lodestar Mountain Inn, operated by Wingfield Ministries, to serve there.  Scott was selected in 2024 to be the president of Wingfield Ministries.  He is grateful to be serving full-time in a position where he can serve others and actively engage in discipling the next generation.
