We might seem a little old-fashioned, but it's just the clothes... and maybe the haircuts. And yet, we LOVE being on staff here at NBC. We love to create environments where people say, "Wow! That's amazing!" We love to build frameworks where our wonderful volunteer leaders can thrive. We love to teach and encourage and support all the people God sends our way. Most of all, we love to watch God change lives... which happens on a daily basis around here.
Drew was born and raised in Sacramento, California and grew up playing all kinds of sports. He graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with Marketing & History undergraduate degrees and received his MBA from the University of San Francisco. He married his beautiful wife, Kathy, and they have three wonderful daughters (Amanda, Jenny & Emily), two fantastic son-in-law's (Kyle... married to Emily, Pierre... engaged to Jenny), and two all-star grandkids (Joel & Valerie). Drew spend 20+ years as a corporate executive for AT&T and DST Systems. God then yanked Drew out of business and into ministry... and he's never looked back.
Besides his pastor role at New Beginnings, Drew speaks/counsels at churches and conferences around the world. He loves traveling and sports --- including football, basketball, golf, tennis, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking and hiking.
Matt had an awesome childhood growing up in Brookfield, Connecticut... but staying in one state was not for him. He moved to Ohio to attend Cedarville University and received his degree in Biblical Studies. In college he became convinced that the Lord wanted him in ministry. So, after graduation, he bounced back to New England and spent three years studying to receive his Masters of Divinity. The Lord then decided to send him to Virginia, and he's been serving as NBC's Family Pastor since 2019.
Matt has a beautiful wife, Katie, and together they love reading, watching movies, playing volleyball, and cooking (more Katie than Matt). Matt's a terrible fisherman, but he keeps trying anyway... just to be outside by the water. If you're looking for him and he's not in the office, you can usually find him playing disc golf at a local course, fishing by a stream, or in NBC's Gaga Pit getting ganged on by the kids from NBC.
Jessica is a sunshine seeker, hot tea drinker, music maker and Bridgewater, Virginia native. She loved growing up in the valley and received an undergraduate degree in interpersonal communication from James Madison University. For the past decade, she has been on a God adventure in ministry and music that included attending Eastern Mennonite seminary, serving for five years in Nashville as an inner-city missionary, and working and performing as a singer/songwriter. Jessica was the Worship Arts Director for Fountain Life Center in New Jersey before she returned to the valley and New Beginnings Church. When she is not planning or leading worship for NBC, you can find her writing and recording music, laughing with good friends, loving her family, or dreaming up places to travel.

Twenty-three years ago, Charlie, Deb and his two daughters (Kara and Allie) moved to Harrisonburg, VA. Laura was raised in a loving Christian home in Western New York and was introduced to Jesus at a very young age. Her parents hosted a Bible Club in their basement. As a teenager, Laura was surrounded by fantastic Christian youth leaders and friends who helped keep her on the straight & narrow… during good and shaky times. She met her beloved husband, Bob, when she was 19 years old and they married 2 years later. A family soon followed… with three wonderful kids (Brian, Amanda and Sam). Laura was very active in the children’s ministry of her church when her kids were young, and was mentored by some marvelous, mature Christian women. She decided then that she wanted mentor young moms in the future. Bob & Laura have lived in the Shenandoah Valley for 32 years and love it! Her kids have all chosen amazing spouses and have blessed them with nine adorable grandchildren! Laura treasures the time she spends with her family & her New Beginnings Church family! You may see her around with her "amazing grays" --- Godly women who build into each others lives and the lives of the young women at NBC.
Since 2015 Tiffany and her husband Carroll have headed up a team of volunteers that build into the lives of middle school students (God bless them!). Tiffany also manages the church’s administrative tasks. In addition to being a wife, she is the mother of two wonderful children, Abby and Tim. Prior to coming on staff at NBC, Tiffany worked in civil engineering, bookkeeping, and database management. But it was the year she spent in overseas missions that changed her life. God called her to youth ministry! Who knew it would take over 20 years for that calling to be realized!
Tiffany says, “My passion is to see young people fall in love with God and His Word.” She credits the pattern set by her own parents for her love of the Bible. “Mom taught kindergarten in a Christian school and would get up at four in the morning to have her devotions. Dad was a career US Navy Chief who also served as a pastor, elder, and Bible teacher.” Tiffany loves to travel, camp, hike (slower than a snail in molasses), and play guitar and golf. But most of all, she loves to capture the beauty and wonder of God’s creation through her photography. And you can see her photo’s all over this website!
Ben grew up in Woodville, NY (no where near the city) and Karen grew up in Powhatan, VA (not exactly a city girl herself). They met at EMU and were married in 1995. They have 4 kids --- Jacob, Ashley, Rachel and Violet. They own a general contracting company and Karen is a nurse at a local hospital. When they're not working, you can find them drinking coffee and eating chocolate covered coffee beans while driving their kids around to various activities at church, Bible studies and youth group events.
Michael and Kiera Heatwole met at a basketball game at Eastern Mennonite University. In one look, they both knew they needed to spend more time with each other. Even before they were married the couple "church shopped" together, finding New Beginnings Church to fit well for both of them. Wanting to do work for the Lord, the couple began singing on the worship team and were soon lead to co-lead the high school youth group with Karen and Ben Bast. In addition to serving in the church, Michael likes to fish while Kiera likes to horseback ride and run.

Having retired as NBC’s Pastor of Congregational Care, Reuben continues to direct GriefShare, lead a fellowship of retired men and a care group, mentor several men, and serve as chaplain at the local hospital.
