DAVE SHANK

Dave and his wife, Cynthia, have been attending NBC since 2001.  Dave grew up in the Shenandoah Valley with parents who faithfully instilled in him an understanding of the place and importance of faith, work, family and fun.  At the age of 12, Dave answered God's call on his life and accepted Christ as his Savior.  While attending Montevideo High School, he was greatly influenced by the Athletic Director who walked his faith in a public school setting.

Dave went to school for what seemed like forever... and eventually became a life guard (doctor).  In the middle of the forever schooling process he met and married Cynthia—with whom, by virtue of a close collaboration, found themselves the parents of four sons.  Faith, work, family and fun were mainstays in their home.  If having fun required some risk-taking, Dave was all in!  He usually allowed it, sometimes encouraged it, and often participated in it.  Serving on the Elder Board at NBC has been a direct result of God's repeated call on Dave's life.  It has provided him the opportunity to understand in detail such matters as obedience, accountability, humility, perseverance, loyalty and faithfulness.

Dave is guided by a series of concepts, derived from Scripture, that consistently provide direction to his leadership.  They include:

1) Opportunity favors the prepared mind.  Be diligent and intentional about the daily preparation of your mind.
2) Equip yourself to transform your sphere of influence while simultaneously and intentionally rejecting society's relentless efforts to manipulate and deceive you into conforming to and with their humanistic perspective.  Ephesians 6 says to put on the full armor of God so that you can confidently stand your ground.  General Omar Bradley put it this way: Set your course by the stars, not the lights of every passing ship.

Dave feels so blessed by his wife, his four sons and their families, his church, and all his friends at NBC.  He thoroughly enjoys making homemade pizza and ice cream, smoking ribs, going to the lake, and horticulture.
